Interview: Ernie Manansala Jr.

The MVP Motorsports Nissan GT-R is favorite among the Wraptivo show cars but some of you may not know the man behind the build.  His name is Ernie Manansala Jr. and not only was he the point man for the MVP Motorsports GT-R he is also the creator behind various show cars that have receieved national acclaim.  We wanted talk with Ernie a bit so you could get to know him a bit better.  Check out the interview below!

How did you catch the “bug” and take up cars as a hobby?

My uncle brought me to a VW show called “wateriest” when i was younger and i just wanted to be just like my uncle and have a fast car and something that made people stop in their tracks to look at…

A while back you had a small fleet of Lexus SC cars.  Why were you so attracted to the SC?

I loved Toyota Supras but I knew I couldn’t really afford one.   Then, one day I was reading a Super Street magazine and noticed the Vertex body kit for the Lexus SC and I was hooked!  Later on when I was a marketing manager at NOS Energy Drink I pitched the idea of building the car and that lead to the blue Lexus SC gutted with a full cage, Origin body kit, and Toyota 1J engine.  After that build I got into the car show scene and wanted to do something “nutty”.   That is when I built a SC300 with a V8 Toyota 2UZ engine, Vertex Ridge kit, Volks wheels, and a slew of Greddy Performance parts.  I think the reason why I love the SC so much is that in a way it is a “poor man’s Supra” I can drive it like I stole it, people have no idea what it is, and you can put just about any motor in it and it will still run amazingly!  I heart SC’s!

You have built a lot of cars in your time.  Of all the project cars you have done do you have a favorite?

I have to say favorite car has to be GT-R I did with MVP Motorsports, RJ De Vera, MotorworldHype.com, Fatlace, and my other partners.   It was a family build you know.   It was all my mentors and friends helping me gather parts and coming together to contribute to The GT-R.  Some people love it and some people hate it and that comes with the territory.   At the end of the day we built it for the scene and the GT-R enthusiasts out there.  Another personal favorite is my first Lexus SC.   My brother mark had a lot to with that car.   He influenced me a lot and it’s something I can share with others forever.

Do you have a preference for any type of car? European? Japanese? American Muscle?

Recently my tastes have been skewed towards European cars.   My mentor RJ de Vera taught me about looking for quality, comfort, fit, and finish in an automobile and in those aspects nothing beats a BMW my opinion.  BMW’s current line is just amazing.  The M3 is the ultimate coupe, the 5 series is the business man’s car, and the 7 series is just pure luxury.   So BMW’s and other European cars are my preference right but really, I love all cars.   I have a Subaru WRX that I love to death.   I love the fact that I can beat on the car, drive in all types of conditions, and get sideways whenever I want.  Then, there is my Toyota Land Cruiser.  I know that thing will get me out of any natural disaster the lord can put me in!

When you do a new project you typically do your own renderings.  Is art a passion of yours as well?

Yes, art is definitely a passion of mine.  I love to draw and I taught myself how to use Photoshop.  Those skills help me helped me a lot when I render my car.   I love all forms of art but I especially love the art that comes from nothing but passion.

What did you think about vinyl wrapping a car before you tried Wraptivo?

I have seen it before and I was completely amazed by it.  I especially loved the DIY aspect of it. Sometimes I have “DIY weekends” and doing little projects on random items with Wraptivo is one of my favorite activities now.   Wraptivo carbon is my all time favorite and I enjoy experimenting with it, and the final outcome always gives instant gratification.

What was your first impression of Wraptivo when you learned of it?

I just couldn’t believe how easy it was to use it. I wrapped my cell phone, my laptop, and my desk! I just wrapped everything I could get my hands on.  I was going to try my puppy’s dog collar too, but she was too fast!

What was the first thing you thought when you saw the completed wrap on the MVP Motorsports GT-R for the first time?

“HOLY !@#$%, that is one mean !@#$@ car!”   You know, every time I look at it I still feel like the MVP Motorsports GT-R came out amazing.  The Wraptivo treatment gives it a style that seems timeless to me.

The GT-R was a favorite among all the wrapped cars at SEMA.  What would be the next project car that you would want to use Wraptivo on?

I want a Honda Civic.  Yes, I said a Civic!   I think that would be the hardest car to build because it is so common and it is hard to be original with it. The Honda Civic is one of the roots of the import scene and I would like to work with a car that has that type of connection to the culture.

Is there any one you want to thank for your success on this project?

Thank you to everyone that helped with the GT-R.   It was a lot of work! Thank you to RJ, MVP, my brother, my family, and all my partners and sponsors.

Where can our readers learn more about your upcoming projects?

For now they can check out facebook.com/ernie.manansala.   I will also soon start my blog again on emanansala.com and on fatlace.com.

Mercedes CLS: Return Of The Battleship Grey Wrap

Once upon a time in a magical land far far away called Irvine, CA this Mercedes CLS used to be white and was the object of envy for almost everyone who saw it.  Then, one day we all got over it and it was just another CLS.  However, that was before Brett Coca got his hands on it.  Brett purchased the car from its previous owner at around the same time he started to learn about Wraptivo for the first time.  Brett’s “other car” as they say, is a Porsche Cayman.  Brett’s Porsche Cayman is the same Porsche that was given the matte white/carbon fiber Wraptivo treatment before touring the show car scene.  Once Brett realized the versatility of wrapping he fell in love with it and even re-wrapped his Porsche into a matte olive green color which you can see on our facebook page.  Yet his precious CLS remained bare and white.

He wanted to try something different and there were certainly many options available but he was unsure of which way to go until he was inspired by one of the Wraptivo supported cars at SEMA.  Which car was it? The battleship grey Lincoln MKX built by clothing brand UNDFTD.  He instantly knew that the battleship color needed to make a come back and it would work perfectly with the CLS’ bodylines.  Check out some pictures of the finished product below and let us know what you think in the comments!

Interview: Nilo J.C. Miranda Of Scion Evolution

We hope you dug our first interview with Peter Nam of Vorsteiner North America.  This time we talked to Nilo J.C. Miranda of Scion Evolution.  Scion Evolution is one of if not, the biggest Scion car club in the world and Nilo is one of its founding members.  He is also one of the first people to ever use Wraptivo on his car.  Remember the really cool digital camo Scion xB that was making the show car rounds?  That was his.  Since then his xB has been wrapped two more times!  We talked to Nilo to learn a little about how Scion Evolution came to be, some of his other show cars, and how he got into this hobby in the first place.  Check it out below!

How did you catch the “bug” and become car crazy?
I caught the bug at a young age with my pops taking me to a custom hotrod and van show back in the day, but my biggest influences were my older cousins who introduced me to the whole import scene in Gardena and the Nisei cruise in Little Tokyo.  The cars that were cool back then we now call “old skool”! This “Flush” and “Poke” style now is not new, it was done better way back then with much better wheels and fitment!

What was your first full-on “show car” that you built?
A 78 Toyota Celica GT Liftback, my first car…I don’t really build the cars for show, but more for my style and liking…people just seem to like them.

Besides your Scion xB show car what other rides to you own?
My other rides are a Right Hand Drive 89 Nissan 180SX, 97 Acura NSX-T and Mercedes Benz C320.

What is it about the Scion xB that made you want it?
I liked the quirkiness and the boldness yet simplicity of the box.  It was different from anything that was out there at the time, plus the gas mileage wasn’t bad either.  It’s any eye catcher for sure..=)

How did you get involved with Scion Evolution?
I along with other friends started the group as a social gathering for people to share ideas on modding cars, show them to others, hanging out and having fun.  We never really thought I would catch on and take off so fast nationally and globally.  It really took us all by surprise and off guard.  It’s been a fun ride and great experience with good people and a great supporting car company like Scion.

What did you think about vinyl wrapping before you did it?
Wraps to me were kinda goofy.  Well, the wraps I saw on the road and on some of the cars at the shows looked kind of like a plastic/ shrink wrap.  They seemed like they would only be good for advertisements.

What was your impression when you saw the xB wrapped for the first time?
Well, my taste in cars was pretty simple and clean, one color cars mostly.   And with the B being a simple polar white, I was blown away when it was taken out of the trailer after they brought it back to me.  I totally did not expect it to turn out the way it did.  The original “Camo Pixel” wrap on the box was awesome!  It reminded me of a mini German Panzer tank!  It totally changed my perception on wraps and I my car changed the minds of a few others as well.  The crazy looks, smiles and neck breaking moves from other drivers always made my day! That’s a tough one.  I liked the funkiness of the camo, textures of the graphite and dry carbon and the color of the olive green, they’re all cool concepts.  All are a win.  What I would like to see if possible is a Desert camo pixel with CF Kevlar roof, hatch, and hood combo.  Game Over!

You’ve wrapped your xB three times.  Of the three themes which one was your favorite?

What do you think your next project car will be?
I’d like to get back into Euros, was into it for a while with a 3 series, been looking at the M5 if the flow is there, if not, maybe buy another MKIV Supra.  I still have the S13 to go all out on as well.

Any shoutouts?
To my friend RJ DeVera of course, Meguiares/Wraptivo, Scion Evolution, Island Motorsports, Midnight Garage, to you for this interview and to all the people in the upper bleachers!  Thanks to all and happy modding! Peace!

Interview: Peter Nam Of Vorsteiner North America

The widebody M3 that you see in the picture above was easily one of  the most popular cars in our booth at SEMA 2010.  While we wrapped it, the car itself was built by Peter Nam the CEO of Vorsteiner North America.  Since our Facebook fans loved this car so much we wanted to sit down with Mr. Nam to get some background on him and his stunning creation.  Check out the interview below.

How did you catch the “bug” and become car crazy?
Started at a very young age of 5 years old when I had miniature toy cars.

You seem to have a preference for European cars.  What is the cause of your affinity for them?
The overall quality and attention detail has always attracted and inspired me.

Can you tell us a little about your business “Vorsteiner” and when you started it?
The company is a corporation and was started back in 2000 with a group of investors. I am one of the founders and have been part of Vorsteiner since day 1.  Our focus was to produce the technologically most advanced products with designs that accentuated the existing lines of the car and not take away from them. Today we produce some of the most advanced carbon composite parts in pre preg autoclave and forged 3-pc and 1-pc aluminum wheels.

You mostly deal with high-end cars, have you ever had any famous customers?
We have had numerous celebrity & VIP clients from across the world from actors, executives, sports stars to royal family members.

You have built a lot of cars in your time.  Of all the Vorsteiner project cars you have done do you have a favorite?
We have enjoyed building each and every car as the process is extremely demanding and exciting at the same time. My personal favorite to date has been the GTRS3 M3 wide body as this has been the first wide body conversion Vorsteiner has done on a production scale basis.

What did you think about vinyl wrapping a car before you tried Wraptivo?
We were honestly a bit skeptical about the final quality outcome as vinyl unlike paint can have limitations on certain surface corners and edges. We wanted to ensure that on the final outcome people would not be able to tell that the car had vinyl on the surface and looked like paint.

What was your impression when  you saw the BMW M3 wrapped for the first time?
We were extremely pleased with the final outcome as quality of the vinyl and the installation was absolutely flawless. Many of our most detail oriented customers was under the assumption the car had been fully repainted due to the quality of the installation when at SEMA 2010. The vinyl also had 3 layers of metallic flakes on the surface that would look bronze under sunlight and showoff grey tones under indoor fluorescent lighting conditions.

Your GTRS3 widebody M3 was a big hit in our booth at SEMA.  What would be the next project car that you would want to use Wraptivo on?
We are currently working on a Ferrari and the upcoming new Bentley GT that we hope to outfit with Wraptivo in the upcoming SEMA show.

Where can our readers learn more about Vorsteiner?
They can join us as friend on facebook under www.facebook.com/vorsteinerna or visit our website at www.vorsteiner.com to keep up with our latest projects and new product developments.

Tjin Edition Chevy Camaro V2 supported by Wraptivo (Video)

We sat down with tuner phenom Neil Tjin to pick his brain and get his thoughts on the Wraptivo transformation we did on his award winning 2010 Chevy Camaro show car.  This car is the very same Camaro that we wrapped live in our SEMA 2010 booth!  Check out the video below for the full interview and some beautiful detail shots of the Tjin Edition Chevy Camaro V2.

Video: Master Wraptivo Installer Robby Burnett At Work

We found this video on YouTube shot by user “BigBear844″ of our very own Robby Burnett working on the Tjin Edition Camaro at the live wrap demonstration we had in our booth at SEMA 2010.  This is a great video of how a skilled installer applies Wraptivo product to a tricky area.  He makes it look so easy doesn’t he?  If you’re planning on purchasing our Wraptivo Universal product you may want to pay extra attention so that you get a better idea of how to install Wraptivo once you get your hands on it.
